FAQs

  • When are we doing this thing?

Wednesday, September 25th, 2025 at 5:00 PM The bar opens at 5 and honestly? Show up early because this space is gonna fill up FAST and we're keeping it intimate (50 people max because we want actual conversations, not a crowd).

  • Where are we gathering?

Killer Queen Wine Bar (and yes, the name alone should tell you this place gets it)

    117 E Main St.
    Durham, NC

  • What's this gonna cost me?

    $15 - and that’s INCLUDING:

Your first wine pour (pick whatever calls to your soul from our curated selection)

Light bites so you don’t wither away

Direct access to your new sommelier friend for all your wine anxiety questions

The kind of community vibes your therapy session told you to find

  • How do I secure my spot?

Tickets live at www.fruitforwardwinebar.com/events . Fair warning: we're capping this at 50 humans because intimate > overwhelming. Don't sleep on this.

  • So like... what IS this event?

Picture this: wine chatter that doesn't make you feel stupid, hosted by a Black queer sommelier who actually gets it, in a space where you can ask "wait, what's a tannin?" without judgment. It's giving wine tasting meets chosen family dinner party meets "finally, representation that makes sense."

We're launching Fruit Forward - aka your new favorite queer wine bar that doesn't require you to pretend you've been to Napa or know how to pronounce "Gewürztraminer."

  • What do I wear?

Whatever makes you feel hot and comfortable. This is NOT a "wine country aesthetic" event. Show up in your favorite outfit that makes you feel like your most authentic self. Crop tops? Yes. Suits? Absolutely. Your most extra jewelry? Please do.

The only dress code is: be yourself, loudly.

  • I know literally nothing about wine. Will I be the dumbest person there?

Absolutely not. Half our job is deprogramming wine snobbery, and honestly? Some of the most interesting wine conversations happen with people who are just starting their journey. Your fresh perspective is exactly what wine spaces need.

Plus, wine knowledge is fake anyway. If it tastes good to you, it's good wine. We're just here to help you find MORE wines that taste good to you.

  • What wines are we tasting?

    We're serving up:

**Wines from makers who look like us and share our values

**Wines that are made as responsibly as possible, because we don’t need to be MORE evil to the planet

**Zero pretentious wines that cost more than your rent

Your sommelier will translate all the wine speak into actual human language. Think "this tastes like summer in a glass" instead of "notes of elderflower with hints of minerality."

  • Food situation?

Think: good cheese, seasonal fruit, things that make wine taste even better, and options for different dietary needs because we're not monsters.

  • Refund policy?

No refunds, but you can transfer your ticket to literally anyone else who's 21+. Can't make it? Sell it to a friend, give it to your cousin, post it in a group chat. Just let us know who's coming instead.

  • Can I bring my people?

YES. Bring your chosen family, your work wife, your person who always says "I don't know anything about wine but..." - everyone needs their own ticket, but group hangs are encouraged.

  • Photo policy?

PLEASE take photos and videos! Document your journey from wine-anxious to wine-confident. Tag us everywhere (@fruitforwardwinebar) and use #FruitForwardWineBar so we can reshare your glow-up.

  • Safe space vibes?

This is a HARD yes. Zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, or any other -ism that makes people feel unwelcome. We're also not tolerating wine snobbery, gatekeeping, or anyone making others feel dumb for asking questions.

If someone's making you uncomfortable, find us immediately. We'll handle it.
